Not only would they be not very good at what they're trying to do, they would be an absolute mockery to researchers who actually take their job seriously. [Not that he would expect much if it does turn out to be a regular human.] I would lose all interest in their task on the spot.

[But more importantly,]

Supplying a fake sample would require locating an animal in the first place. For a place that needs revitalizing, there isn't much life around to benefit from it.
