It's been a ride. One where they all messed up and two innocent people died in the end. Of course, nobody knows who the killer is, with the exception of Fav and his master. Nevertheless, things seem to feel a lot more solemn and melancholy this week, and Fav's announcement does not help, either.

[That's actually a really peculiar response to Szayel. Is she just saying that to gloss over the subject, or...]

Are you familiar with Shinigami, then? [Pretend I didn't mess up my ordering and Szayel was clear on who is what.] But...yes, that certainly sounds about right for him.

[It's weird to have his history with Renji brought to light, but it's not like there's much sense in being concerned about it now.]

Oh, it was not something so petty as a blood feud. Though the Shinigami did invade our territory, so naturally we fought back. Renji had the pleasure of finding himself in my personal halls.

A reaper, isn't it? They're the subject of folklore and superstition in my world....but I wouldn't know what that term means to you, Mr. Granz. [A beat.] Or what an arrancar is.

[That's his cue to elaborate. Or not.]

[Ah, so that's it, then.]

Correct. Despite being centered in superstition, they do indeed exist. Most humans are not able to see or communicate with them because they are spiritual in nature. The same can be said for Arrancar, though we are an entirely different set of beings from Shinigami.

[It's...probably best to leave it at that. What good is explaining Hollows to a human?]

Considering the Shinigami of your world launched an invasion into your territory, they're every bit as pleasant as they are in the stories, I take it.

[A beat.] One fewer amongst us means one less trial anyway. As unfortunate as the circumstances might have been. I suppose, on the bright side, you have more data for your research. [That's more utility that the others who've died can say for themselves. But is Dahlia going to say that? Nope.]

Oh, absolutely. They are truly loathsome creatures. And in all honesty? Not worth the time discussing.

[Wow.

So with that said, apparently it's time for the discussion to switch to their current situation.]

You are quite right, on both counts. [What he doesn't say is now he doesn't have to worry about people immediately pinning him as the prime suspect if Renji actually did get murdered by someone.] I am curious to see what the actual effects of the impurity are on a magical being. If I get a chance to investigate, at least.

[She considers this for a moment.] If the opportunity to examine the body was declined, that'd be somewhat suspicious in and of itself wouldn't it? If there's nothing to hide, there's nothing to hide.

Suspicious, perhaps. Though it would be more expected from Fav, who seems to be rather fond of stepping on our toes at every opportunity that he receives.

Fav hasn't had a problem with allowing people to examine dead bodies before though. This would be an unusual deviation from the norm.... if you are prevented from looking that is.

[A beat.] Will you tell me later?

Those cases were for the purpose of investigation in preparation for a trial. This is an entirely different case. We shall see how it goes.

[...he can't lie that he's not intrigued by Dahlia's own curiosity, though.]

I will tell you, yes. It would be beneficial to to keep some others besides myself in the know.

[And those some are quite select.]

A different case, yes.... but I wouldn't call what Fav does obstructionism for the sake of obstructionism either.

[But she'll let that point go as it's not something she cares to debate while they're in earshot of Fav. She considers making some comment about that burn book of his, but actually she'll refrain.]
