Monday-Sunday, Week 4

Today is quiet. Surprisingly so. There's no wake up call for the longest time, and everything seems to be almost scarily quiet. At least, until 12 PM, where the familiar voice of a female whom everyone will recognize as M chimes in.

"Hello, everybody. No need to come to the lobby or anything today for the announcement; this week will be a no murder week. The first reason is due to the Easter holiday. The second reason being because there's something wrong with Fav and this town. Meaning, I'll need you all to help me. You don't want to die because the town fell out of the sky, would you? Anyway, the task is pretty simple: find various colored eggs throughout the town. Easy. Certain eggs give you notes, some give you candy, but what I'm looking for is a body. There are eggs with body parts scattered all over. The eggs are small, but they can contain items that are bigger than itself. If you collect the body parts and reassemble them, this town will be safe. For the time being. If you do succeed, the lobby will become a ballroom on Easter Sunday, and I will provide proper clothes, music, and food for you all. Oh, and I fixed Zack's mess, in the dollhouse. That is all. And don't bother trying to answer back. I won't respond."

Of course, after her words are said and done, everyone who is alive will notice the slight static in some of the buildings, almost unstable. Sometimes you'll even find your hand going through things, occasionally. Even more so if you're in your magical form. Also, to note: apparently the network is down, even though transforming works just fine.

This is the mingle post for week four, which covers Monday (4/10) to Sunday (4/16). This week is a breather week, as Sunday is Easter.

Or has it been this way for a while now? I haven't been down to the morgue much, actually.

[ Thus she also isn't sure whose drawer this is, but she has some sinking feeling about the matter... ]

[Judging by the look of confusion on Szayel's face, that's a definite "no".]

No. No it most certainly has not.

[He's going to head over there to investigate. Is it broken as in the light is off? Or is there damage to the door...?]

The last time I was in here was Thursday, and everything was in order. This must have happened recently, along with the additions of our latest dead.

[Dahlia likewise moves closer to the drawer in question, brow creased.]

It seems odd that the locker was disturbed at all between Thursday and today. I'd prefer to think of it as coincidence, but the way Town A has been, coincidence isn't usually the right answer.

[In addition to the questions about what can be observed in the previous tag, are there any signs of fingerprints on the drawer?]

[No fingerprints. There is a definite dent to the door and the light is no longer green, but red instead.]

If they were going to get rid of Renji, they could have done so way sooner. The only reason I can imagine for this is if someone knew we were coming.

[ You know what, Miach will just try and open this anyway. Does the door budge at all when approached with forceful (but untransoformed) attempts? ]

Here goes nothing, then.

[It doesn't open at all, no.]

[Szayel already had a bad feeling upon seeing the dent and red light, and his concern is only confirmed when Miach can't even open the locker.]

Will it not open?

[He'll come over to try for himself, and also gets no results.

He doesn't respond to this right away, and instead silently goes over to attempt another of the redlit doors. Are they likewise locked or simply empty?]

[While Szayel goes to try another locker to see if they're all this stubborn, Dahlia glances at Miach.]

If that's the most logical conclusion to draw, then tracing the source of the "leak" ought to be the next step. As this was a relatively spontaneous decision to come together as a group, it doesn't seem likely that it's us. In that case...

[Turning to Szayel:] There's something about Mr Abarai's body that they don't want examined. Either the impurity doesn't actually cause death upon contact or there's something about the way the impurity causes death that reveals an inconvenient truth.

[A touch more flippantly:] Or perhaps Miss M selected his body to supply the parts for that easter egg hunt of hers. Any luck, Mr. Granz?

[She herself joins Miach at Renji's drawer to examne the dent a little closer. Is there any indication of what could have caused the dent? Any tools in the immediate vicinity that could've been used to leave it?]

[There seems to be something black in some areas of the dent, but nothing that seems to have caused it.

As for the other lockers, they're the same as they were last time they were checked. Bodies and all. Of course, there's no key in that last one anymore.]

But then why not do it earlier...? Anyone could have come and examined him in the time up to now, so why is it only jammed now that we're here? We only just decided at the meeting and came here right away, so it's hard to imagine anyone else getting here before us without applying supernatural means, at least.

[ The black probably has stuck out to Dahlia at this point too, but Miach points to it regardless, raising an eyebrow. Is there any texture recognizable? Like is it liquid, is it shiny, is it grainy, is it burnt? ]

[It's not liquid, shiny, grainy or burnt. Rather it looks dirty, but it's the kind of dirty that cannot be cleaned.]

Everything else is as it was the last time I was here. Indeed, this was a deliberate act upon Renji's locker.

[Finding nothing amiss with the other lockers, Szayel steps in behind the girls (height advantage helps here) to examine the door with them. That black mark is a little disconcerting, really. Are we talking like...impurity sort of dirty?]

As amusing as it would be to discover Renji's parts within the eggs, I doubt it would be the case considering the nature of his death. [...] Not that I would expect M to care if handling a body ravaged by impurity resulted in dire consequences for us, though something must have handled it to get it to the morgue. There are so many unknown factors that we are now forced to simply accept for the time being.

[Both Dahlia and Miach are raising plenty of great questions though.]

It truly is baffling. I sincerely doubt that M would not expect us to want to examine the body, otherwise she could have simply not have it delivered to the morgue at all. [He glances at Miach for this next part.] For all we know, Fav may have heard us discussing it on the very day it happened. We weren't exactly speaking in hushed tones.

[We are indeed talking about the impurity sort of dirty.]

[And now that he's been able to get a good look at the stuff...

Haha oh shit.]

Dahlia. Miach. I highly suggest we take a good step back.

[Judging by how his tone has gone from one of bafflement to straight-up stern and serious, it probably doesn't take much to figure out that things have taken an unfortunate turn.]

[Hearing the change in tone, Dahlia does indeed take several steps back. There aren't many substances that she can think of that would leave black marks like that, but hearing Szayel speak is what gets the last puzzle piece to click into place.]

You don't think.... impurity?

[Likewise, she's dropped her more flippant tone.]

If so, do we assume the source of it is Mr. Abarai? ...Or seeing as the only trace of it appears to be on the outside of the drawer, it would seem more logical to assume it was put there.... probably through the use of a contaminated object.

[She takes out her magical phone here, because yes, she has resigned herself to this role.]

[ Wwwweeeeeeeeelp. Miach is also going to step back, examining her hands as she goes to see if any of it got on her during her attempt to open that locker. She's still alive, so that's uplifting and hope-inspiring on that front. This would be a truly dumb way to die and she really doesn't feel like following Renji's example. ]

We've never clarified the nature of the impurity either, have we...? Isn't it entirely possible that it does not simply move and occur at random as initially thought and instead has a kind of purpose behind it? This may be a long shot, but if M wants to get rid of it and yet something is defending it from our attempts at study....

[ Then is M even who is making this happen? Who knows anymore. ]

From what has been gathered thus far, it has appeared where intense bouts of negative emotion have occurred- the act of death, primarily. The apartments where Dia was killed, down by the river were Eliza was discovered, and likely the dollhouse where Chiaki and Seraphina experienced several deaths.

[He studies the new spot in the door as he continues.]

This is the first outlier. As you said, Dahlia, this doesn't seem to have spilled out from inside and was left as a remnant. But from what, I wonder? What was the purpose of attacking this door?

[...may as well throw another hypothesis out there.]

Perhaps the this door was locked for other reasons than to simply keep us out?

[Picture taken, Dahlia slips the phone back into her pocket and takes a further step back.]

As long as we're generating alternate theories, perhaps we also ought to consider the possibility that the dent was left on Mr. Abarai's locker accidentally in the process of achieving some other goal... though I truly don't know how likely that is.

[Looking more at Miach, she continues:] I don't know if the impurity is sentient, but speaking of sentient things that are related to impurity... what if one of our ghost friends overheard the conversation at the meeting and did this hoping to protect us?

They would certainly be the most likely candidates to both know of our plans and have the means to get here faster than us. We don't know what kind of forces they are bound to, but it's certainly not the physics of our world.

[ She plays with her hair as they think. ]

We might have to ask a ghost about the impurity at some point, but I doubt the answers will be too useful.
