Monday-Thursday, Week 5

13 REMAIN

Unlike the quiet of last week, the sounds of the occasional static seem to stop; the world around them seems to become more stable and fluid, as if the week prior had never happened. Hands no longer occasionally go through walls or buildings, the eggs are no longer there as well as the body they managed to complete. Just like Cinderella at the chime of midnight, everything goes back to the way it used to be, here in Town A.

Of course "used to be" is a rather loose term, as the tasks are still broken for some reason and nobody seems to appear around Town A anymore. Nevertheless, at around 9 AM in the morning, everyone's phones turn immediately on, regardless of whether they had it off or not at the time, as an announcement is made-

"Since everything is now back to normal thanks to my master, we will continue with the game, pon. There is an announcement to be made that you all would really like to hear, so make sure you all meet in the inn lobby, pon. I'll be waiting."

[Don't mind Kaine, he's just stopped in to see what's in here, and walking over to the wooden swords. He'll hang on to one of these just in case.]

Self taught, or did you learn from somebody?

[He hasn't really talked to Joshua much, but he's the front runner for sanest guy here, so why not try and make conversation?]

[He cuts his words off, as he heaves a bit of a sigh.]

A man named Cassius taught me after he took me in. I'm self-taught in a sense considering before that I worked as an assassin for an organization. It's just... something I know how to do.

[It's hard for him to explain, really. A lot of it comes down to psychological conditioning...]

Though that's probably not the most comforting thing to hear right now.

It's fine, you're not the only one.

[Joshua, Zack, him, maybe they should start a club.]

Don't tell everyone I said that. I'm retired anyway.

[As much as anyone can retire from that anyway.]

All it'd do is probably weird some people out, and I think some people do enough of that on their own without giving them extra reason.

You're fine. At least you're among friends at this point.

[Joshua chuckles, trying to make this sound light hearted, but he sighs after a bit.]

Though I doubt it would weird people out. At this point, we're all viable suspects for murder and there's still someone out there who committed a murder and got away with it.

[It could be you, Kaine, but he's not judging. He has no right to.]

...yeah.

[Even if he's not judging, Kaine's still going to mull over that one for a while.]

I mean it'd probably be fine, but given my other career, it just makes it more of a mess to try and explain.

[You can't be a superhero and an assassin, that's not how it works. Or not how it's supposed to work.]

I stick my foot in my mouth enough as it is anyways.

We're more alike than I thought.

[Joshua chuckles a bit.]

I'm not sure if I can go back to being a Bracer, however, that job was simply protecting the civilians. I was hoping I could find a new start being one.

Yeah? If you can go back to that, good luck. I hope it works for you.

[Didn't work for him, but the nice thing is that other people aren't Kaine, so they have a chance. Or something like that, anyway.]
