Throughout the week, you are given various tasks to fulfill, in order to get candy and go back home. But it's going to be a rough ride, considering that you need 100,000 candy to get back there. But don't worry, with the new candy count increase, things should be a lot easier, right? What could possibly go wrong?

I wonder why that number is so strange compared to the others though. I guess maybe the game has something to do with butterflies...?

If the butterflies are coming from the pit of Hell, then probably.

[...] Well, Vivillion can be found almost anywhere, so I guess there could be a variant that comes from there...

Vivillion are number 666 in the National Pokedex! They're a butterfly-like Pokemon that has wings that have all sorts of different patterns depending on where they come from!

[zackthekiller]

[Sorry, he was too busy being talked out of smashing his phone against the wall in a fit of range.]

[Zack gives Eliza a blank stare.]

... The hell is a Pokemon?

Oh, um, they're creatures from my world! They come in all sorts of different colors and have different kinds of elemental powers! [A pause] Humans and Pokemon are supposed to work together, and Pokemon battles are supposed to be a non-lethal way of dealing with arguments. I had my own with me before I came here, but the Mastermind took them...and she called them "things"! [Her voice turns indignant.]

... So, they're like pets with superpowers?

[Zack, no.]

Yeah, kind of? I guess if people had their powers they'd be considered "super." Although most Pokemon do like to fight, so they're not just pets.

[zackthekiller]

Okay, so they're dangerous pets with superpowers. Yikes.

I'll try to keep an eye out for them before they destroy anything. Remind me again what they look like?

Most of them probably don't want to destroy things! But I made a post about them two weeks ago.

According to some overly religious or superstitious people, 666 is the devil's number.

Interestingly, 666 may be nothing but a transcription mistake. The earliest known transcription of the Book of Revelation has the number as 616 - all sources for 666 date later. There are many theories about it, of course, but it surely illustrates how easily we can build culture on simple mistakes.

I suppose people make mistakes every now and again... which is strangely, not surprising.

Well, that's a weird thing to associate it with. Wouldn't it be more logical to be 4, since if you write it right it looks like it has horns?

[And now she's thinking about numbers and visual puns again. She's going to do her best to push those thoughts down.]

[ Basically: you're weird, Eliza. ] However, in Japanese culture, the number four is an unlucky number due to the fact that four can be read as shi, which can also mean death.

Huh. So does "six" have some other meaning that makes it mean the devil?

In that case... no. The faith that "666" came from isn't necessarily Japanese, so it doesn't have any meaning like that.

Either way, that's kind of weird. So you don't know the exact reason either?

I don't think it's too strange, but the origins came from religion rather than wordplay.

If it's from religion, wouldn't 487 or 491 make more sense?

[A pause]

Oh right...you probably don't have Pokemon in your world either, right?

... I don't. Sorry.

Oh, well, they're a sort of creature from my world. A lot of them have powers over elements like fire, grass, or air. And some of them are known as Legendary Pokemon, which are much more powerful. The most commonly known numbering system has Giratina as the 487th Pokemon and Darkrai as the 491st, and they're both Pokemon that have been considered to represent the Devil in some religions.
