Monday-Thursday, Week 5

13 REMAIN

Unlike the quiet of last week, the sounds of the occasional static seem to stop; the world around them seems to become more stable and fluid, as if the week prior had never happened. Hands no longer occasionally go through walls or buildings, the eggs are no longer there as well as the body they managed to complete. Just like Cinderella at the chime of midnight, everything goes back to the way it used to be, here in Town A.

Of course "used to be" is a rather loose term, as the tasks are still broken for some reason and nobody seems to appear around Town A anymore. Nevertheless, at around 9 AM in the morning, everyone's phones turn immediately on, regardless of whether they had it off or not at the time, as an announcement is made-

"Since everything is now back to normal thanks to my master, we will continue with the game, pon. There is an announcement to be made that you all would really like to hear, so make sure you all meet in the inn lobby, pon. I'll be waiting."

[There's a voice of a female with a deeper range, but it's not any of the voices that Zack will recognize.]

[Zack readies his stance, preparing to strike whoever dared to intrude upon his quiet time.]

[He doesn't recognize the voice at all, which really puts him on the edge. Maybe this one might be fair game since this girl isn't one of his fellow captives.]

Who's there?! Show yourself!

Dead people can't exactly show themselves. Well, not if they don't have the ability to see them to begin with. But you actually heard me. I guess what they said about this place really was true.

Dead...

[Zack lowers his guard, glancing around. He doesn't see anyone at all, but he can hear someone here...]

... Who are you?

I don't remember.

[That's the three words that she says, rather calmly.] Not that if I answered, it would actually matter.

[Uh... How do you deal with an amnesiac ghost?]

Well, I guess someone's gonna have to name you, now. It feels weird talking to someone with no name.

You don't remember how long you've been here, do you?

Is it really? You don't need a name to talk to someone, most of the time, I'd think.

[She laughs a little cheekily, however.] But no, I don't remember exactly. I just know it's been over a thousand years, like that other girl you met.

Oh, so you're like Inaba then?

[It must have been well over a thousand years... Either that, or this ghost has shit memory.]

I was going to tell people about you, and you honestly deserve to be called something other than "this ghost girl I found on the tower."

Inaba-san... ah, yes. Her. We were in the same game, if I remember correctly.

[That much she recalls.] Well, you're not going to only find me here on this tower. But I guess it depends who's actually here when you show up.

[zackthekiller]

Ah... She seemed to remember more than you when we found her using that laptop...

[Huh... Gives him a thought.]

Hey, if I took out my phone and messaged the network, do you think anyone would hear you on it?

She was the first one out of all of us to stop her mana getting leaked.

[...] Probably not. You can only hear me because you're here.

... So, wait. We can talk to ghosts while we're up here?

Looks like it. I don't know if you can talk to all of us, however.

[Well, so much for that idea.]

[He sighs and sits down, gazing upon the city below. He lets the long handle of his scythe rest idly on his shoulder.]

So what's your story? What do you remember?

My room is 27. As for my story, don't you think it's rude to ask a lady her most intimate secrets?

[zackthekiller]

27, huh?

[Excuse him for a moment, he's gonna make a quick network post.]

Sorry. And I think you might know something that could help get us outta this hellhole. Probably you too, I hear.

Like what, exactly? If I knew something that could help, I would have gotten out by now... or perhaps it wouldn't be this 'me', but another 'me'.

The you with all your memories?

[She laughs again, almost teasingly. Almost condescendingly, but it's so light and airy that it's difficult to tell.]

Not exactly... but I suppose you could say that.

[zackthekiller]

[Are you Danny's sister? Because you're starting to remind him of the bastard.]

So you're saying you played a third role in your game? Like a murderer or something?

[He's a killer too, but his murder doesn't really count thanks to the fox and her mirror shenannigans.]

Nope.

[There's a hint of amusement in her tone, but it's a bit subdued.]

I was the one who was killed. I wasn't the killer.

[zackthekiller]

Okay then, how'd you manage to die?

[raisingproject]

Again, you're asking a lady for her most intimate secrets. Do you think dead people like talking about how they died? How exactly is that information pertinent?

Unless you have some sort of murder fetish.

[zackthekiller]

[Zack chuckles at that.]

Lady, you have no idea...

[Zack checks the network since miss ghostie isn't being too helpful... Oh? Something interesting just popped up!]

[Zack takes a moment to reply before looking up to address the ghost.]

Hey, lady? I think your old room tried to drown someone.

[raisingproject]

Gross. I'm not letting you get off on the details of how I died, then.

[She says that so offhandedly it's as if she doesn't really care. And honestly? She really doesn't.]

... Drown someone? Well, at least it was 'tried', which means that they didn't actually drown in the end.
